Scholarships for Hispanics series_¡Adelante! Scholarships
History
The ¡Adelante! Scholarships are part of the Adelante U.S. Education Leadership Fund. This non-profit organization was started in 1993 as a collaboration between the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities and the Miller Brewing Company to address the disproportionate number of Hispanic college dropouts. Their goal was to integrate the growing needs of Corporate America with the growing Hispanic college population, and simultaneously prevent college dropouts. By 1999, they had obtained nonprofit status and became funded entirely through corporate and other philanthropic contributions.
They have since expanded their corporate partnerships to include the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), the Ford Motor Company, and Lilly Pharmaceuticals. The ¡Adelante! Scholarship series promotes retention of Hispanic college students by providing mentorship through internships, leadership training programs, and scholarships for Hispanics.
