The University of South Alabama offers many competitive scholarship packages for in-state and out-of-state first-time freshmen. Once admitted, first time freshmen will automatically be reviewed for a Freshman Admission Scholarship, but there are several other scholarships for which they can apply to supplement their financial aid. This article will review the largest scholarships, but there are many other university or departmental scholarships available for new and continuing students, as well as scholarships for transfer students. Interested students should check with the university’s financial aid office for more information.

The USA Board of Trustees Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship provides funding to exceptionally qualified and highly motivated incoming USA Freshman. One award is given each year to the incoming Freshman candidate with the highest ACT/SAT composite score and GPA combination. This scholarship is renewable for the first four years of the student’s undergraduate study so long as the student maintains the minimum requirements.

The University of South Alabama Honors College Scholarship

The USA Honors College Scholarship provides opportunities for incoming students to challenge themselves through discussion, research, creative scholarship, intercultural engagement and the arts. Through this program, awardees will have opportunities for travel, research, programming support, and other unique opportunities throughout their four years of enrollment. These experiences and activities are designed to foster student success and encourage students to participate in enhanced intellectual experiences. This award is only available for students who are part of the USA Honors Program. Receipt of this scholarship makes awardees eligible for additional scholarships provided by the university.

The Abraham Mitchell Business Scholars Program

This scholarship is intended for exceptional business students to help them to develop to their full potential. Awardees will receive faculty mentorship and a four-year scholarship that includes a laptop computer. Applicants must have a minimum ACT composite score of 28, a 3.5 GPA, and have been accepted into the Business program. All incoming freshman may apply, but preference will be given to Mobile or Baldwin Counties and State of Alabama residents

Students who are awarded both a Mitchell Business Scholarship and a USA Freshman Admission Scholarship must choose which scholarship they wish to accept.
